I have been trying to get out and about as much as possible here at home as the Senedd recess draws to a close and last week I held two more street surgeries – where I can talk to people about the issues they care about in the places they live. Last week’s street surgeries were in Cilcain and Gwernymynydd and it’s always good to talk to residents and hear their views. It’s so important to talk to local people in my job as your representative and these street surgeries are a good way to engage people who wouldn’t normally come into my office. I also had the chance to visit Mostyn Community Centre for a drop-in day at the weekend, another chance to chat to residents and groups.
If you have an issue you would like to discuss with me, whether it’s transport, education, health, housing or something else, then please get in touch and I will do all I can to help you. I also hold regular face-to-face, phone or online help and advice sessions – feel free to get in touch with my office to arrange an appointment by emailing hannah.blythyn@senedd.wales or by phoning 01352 762102, or you can write to me at First Floor, 52 High Street, Mold, Flintshire CH7 1BH. To find out more, visit my website at www.hannahblythyn.cymru/contact.
During the week I had the chance to meet once again with our local member of the Welsh Youth Parliament Ben Harris, this time at Mold Bus Station. We talked before about shared priorities for the young people of Delyn and this time we chatted about the Welsh Government’s plans for an overhaul of bus services in Wales via the Bus Bill, as well as the new £1 bus travel for young people scheme.
According to the latest data, nearly 18,000 young people across Wales have applied for a MyTravelPass which entitles those aged between 16 and 21 to travel for just £1 or £3 for unlimited daily travel – and this extends to cross-border travel that starts or ends in Wales too. This new scheme is helping young people to get to work, school or college, or just to travel into town to catch up with friends – you can find more information at https://mytravelpass.tfw.wales.
Flintshire Local Voluntary Council (FLVC) is planning a couple of events that members of community groups or volunteers might be interested in. First up is a Meet the Funder online event on October 2 at 1pm, which will provide advice and information to organisations looking to bring in extra funds for projects or community groups – you can find more information at www.flvc.org.uk/flvc-meet-the-funder-online-session-easyfundraising. FLVC is also hosting its Annual General Meeting on October 9 at Mold Rugby Club from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, beginning with the AGM and concluding with the FLVC Young Volunteer Awards – a chance to recognise the work of some of Flintshire’s young volunteers. To register your place, visit www.flvc.org.uk/annual-general-meeting-and-young-volunteer-awards.
When a family loses a child or young adult the effects are devastating for the family and all who knew them – that’s why I support the work of 2Wish, a charity which provides support for those affected by sudden death in young people, including local organisation Morgan’s MAP. Morgan’s MAP was set up to help people learn how to recover their passion for life following trauma like losing a child or young person and was started in memory of the founder’s 23-year-old son, who died from sepsis.
The organisation is planning to launch a Wales-wide awareness campaign, starting with a moving photography exhibition sharing the real stories of bereaved parents to be held at Caffi Isa in Mynydd Isa on October 2, before travelling across North Wales and being displayed at the Senedd in Cardiff. The organisation is looking for sponsorship or support as part of this project – so if there are any local businesses which might be interesting in sponsoring the exhibition or just providing raffle and auction prizes, contact morgansmap@outlook.com or call 07486 062908.
As always, if you would like advice and/or support, please don’t hesitate to get in touch on any of the following contact details – 52 High Street, Mold, Flintshire, on 01352 753464 or by email hannah.blythyn@senedd.wales. You can also keep up to date via my Facebook page – www.facebook.com/HannahBlythyn. Constituents are, of course, welcome to contact my office to arrange an appointment to see me, you don’t need to wait for an advice surgery.
